Topic: Phaedra Vs. Rubycon (TD Album Duel Part 5) Posted: January 08 2017 at 09:35 |
I tried to avoid this poll at all costs. I experimented with other poll ideas such as "Rubycon Vs Tangram" and "Phaedra Vs. Ricochet", but these 2 albums always won in my opinion. The only real way to test which one is the better album is to pit them against each other in a one on one duel. That being said, neither of these albums can be considered bad or even weak by any stretch of the imagination. Now that that's out of the way, let the duel begin! I personally enjoy Phaedra just that much more than Rubycon, though both albums hold a place in my top 20 favorite albums ever. Both are imaginative, creative, awe-inspiring, *insert another cliche term here*, and simply genius. Phaedra is just a little better in my humble opinion. And no, im not going to click the "Both are Equal" option. I almost didn't include it in this duel but I did anyway for the sake of those who want to keep their sanity rather than pick the better album of these two.

I adore both but have a special relationship with Rubycon. Phaedra is a rather new acquaintance of mine as I skipped it for better things back when I first bought it ie Alpha Centauri, Force Majeure and Atem. It has grown on me though and I now consider it a bit of a masterpiece. Still prefer Rubycon...slightly.

Both are phenomenal but Phaedra also shines just a little brighter for me.

I consider them equal. If they had been released as a double album, it would probably be my favorite double album of the 70s.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone like one of these while disliking the other? Or even just have a really clear preference? We all seem to agree that they're relatively equal. My vote, by a hair, goes to Rubycon.

I think Phaedra is the one where they for the first time use their trademark sequencer rhythms to carry substantial stretches of the music; not sure whether Klaus Schulze or anybody else did this before. Phaedra is certainly a milestone and I admire it for that.
That said, ignoring the historical significance, just for listening pleasure I prefer Rubycon by quite some distance.

Love both but Phaedra usually inches it by a mile.
