For me The Least we can do might actually be the best first album to get into them... or perhaps I'm just saying it because it was the first album I heard from them. But that pair of first tracks are just great to warm up to their more difficult to apreciate work afterwards (and Darkness is still one of my favourites from them). And yes, I don't remember the last song very well, but it's one I like less, as well as the fourth one. One thing you might have to consider with this band is that you might not be able to get into whole albums, because some tracks are just harder to digest than others, so you might just have to select the ones you like better. At least in order to get into them first.

You know, the more I hear of this band.. you might be right. That was the first album of theirs that I liked all the way through. Even H to He sounded patchy to me. I don't know, I feel like there's something there though. We'll see I guess.

Or at least, that's the one that doesn't have the same highlights as the others (as far as I'm concerned).

How.. how is Gentle FREAKING Giant losing to a band who's not even considered 'first tier'? I don't.. oh well can't fight city hall.

Gentle Giant is on the same tier as Camel, IMHO. Neither is on the (mainstream acceptance) level of Genesis or Yes. That's not to say they rank lower on MY scale of appreciation.

I think there was a mistake.
Camel reads 34 votes, Gentle Giant 31, Van Der Graaf Generator 29. 34 should read 43, 31 13, and 29 92. But that is not it, you see 13 is a very unlucky number. You do 31+13=44 PA is acting really weird today but these should be the results: Camel 43, Gentle Giant 44, Van Der Graaf Generator 92. Sorry for the inconveniences guys.

Wow, surprised to see Camel on top. I am confident in picking Van der Graaf Generator here. Honestly, they have a very strong, consistent output, at least 5 great albums (The Least...up to Still Life); even second tier LPs are admirable (World Record, Present). I try be open minded when it comes to taste, but it'd be hard to understand how any conscious listener isn't amazed by Godbluff or Pawn Hearts. So yes, VdGG is clearly a leader for me, and then I'd pick Gentle Giant. But I enjoy all groups mentioned in this topic.

hahah.. yeah man.. losing to a 4th tier band. It hurts man... Imagine how poor ELP fan has felt over the years here haha. f**king Camel indeed
anyhow... I'll take the 4 good albums over the 2 Camel did and the 1 VDGG did. Easy vote...
