Cygnus edges Jacob's Ladder. A bit more going on.

Jacob´s is the greatest song in Permanent waves, but it´s Cygnus, one of the rare Rush songs I learned to play with bass (another one is Xanadu, also tried Tom Sawyer and YYZ, not even tried that solo part).

No brainer (despite the voting results) Ladder is rather boring... It's a crescendoing bolero, but that's about itCygnus has got soo much going on in it.

Had to go with Cygnus. 'Ladder had the unfortunate position of being part of a mishmash of songs that uncomfortably saw the band into the '80s. It should have been on a better album as Cygnus certainly was. I do love Natural Science.

Very close. Both songs would be in my Rush top ten, but today I'll go for Cygnus.
Tomorrow I may vote otherwise.... |

I wouldn't go that far but it's one of the best tracks on that album.

I chose Jacob's Ladder. I won't say I like it a whole lot better but I find it to be the better song. Cygnus suffers from a few things in my opinion. One is the herky jerky stop start rhythm section and the other is the robot voice(right before it). Fortunately they both occur in the first few minutes of the track and it only gets better after that.
