Qualia by Syrinx (2008, so a little before this decade) is a gorgeous one that should appeal to symphonic, fusion, and eclectic fans alike.

Cheating a bit with the first one here, but a favourite f mine is Rapoon's Conduits and Estuaries (electronic, performed live, but the voices are dubs and electronic)
https://anodizesound.bandcamp.com/album/conduits-and-estuaries Electric Orange's Volume 10 (included in Krautrock) is one of my sure faves of this decade. Caillou self-titled (is included in Zeuhl) https://caillou.bandcamp.com/ Aranis - Made in Belgium II (one of the least rock bands in RIO/Avant) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niiOLR4xiyk Light Corporation - Chapter IV/ Before the Murmur of Silence (a jazzy one in RIO) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqCJKSijV58 And a modern album from a classic band: Univers Zero And also Phosphorescent Dreams by UZ. Guapo I really love, and has already been mentioned. Quite a few electronic releases I like, but the list is already getting long. And from maybe my favourite classic band, Art Zoyd's Eyecatcher. And Matt Berry's Music for Insomniacs I think should get a mention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUOHKVJzgHc Edited by Logan - March 03 2017 at 17:52 |

That is a very good, thought provoking question. As I review my favorite instrumental albums of the last 7 years the ones right off the top of my head are either metal or outside of the prog spectrum. I must review and return.

Here's something really good that never gets mentioned:
Muskox - Invocation/Transformation Muskox - 5 Pieces Oddly there are / were two Canadian bands called Muskox. The other is a neofolk / neoclassical outfit and not bad either, but it's banjoist Mike Smith's minimalist-influenced progfolkjazz concern that I love. Hyrrokkin:
Their album Of Pristine Origin is a blast, especially if you like some free jazz horns mixed in with your manic avant-rock. Edited by Mascodagama - March 04 2017 at 05:07 |

Miriodor - Avanti!
Hands down one of the best albums of the past 16 years, though it was released at the end of 2009. |
