Any fans?
He's one of my favorites. A trained composer who focused on bass, was in the Finnish band Wigwam. Pekka Pohjola - "Risto" - Live 1998

Love him, particularly the first two solo albums. B. the Magpie is an all-time favourite. Great bassist and composer and a good pianist and violinist to boot.

Great musician! Some good early hints on Wigwam albums - I particularly like 'Nipistys' off Live Music from the Twilight Zone. Also plays bass for Mike Oldfield on Exposed - very overlooked artist!

When it comes to combining complexity with lyricism that shows an adept knowledge and ability in music, he is really in the top level. He has a lot of varied stuff, and some is more in the chops fusion area which I don't like as much. He also wrote a symphony or two.

Hi,
I kinda wish they would release his catalog ... I have the LP "Space Waltz" and I have not seen it on CD yet, to get it. Sadly, even Mike Oldfield did not do him and others properly ... and they should be mentioned out loud in the "Exposed" album, but I bet Mr Colored Balls did not want to pay any of them!

But isn't that what happened with 'Exposed'? I can't remember the details....

Pekka was pretty good in Wigwam. He was brilliant on his own. His debut is one of the best - especially the last track when he plays wah-pedal bass with the mellow backing......I'm in Heaven with this..................

I bet a lot of PA members are just hearing of him with this post. He hasn't exactly been a hotly discussed topic since I've been discussing Prog online (since 1994....)

Lovely isn't it? That piece has always haunted me with the feeling that it reminds me of something else, but I have never been able to pin down what it is. |

Ditto for me. These first two are more or less essential in a prog collection.

My first album was printed in the US as Mike Oldfield'so The Consequences of Indecision. I was glad to finally get it on CD properly labeled.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
