Two Marillion albums from the eighties.
Which is your favourite?
Originally when both records had been released,Misplaced was definitely my favourite, but in recent years CAS has grown into a fine last hurrah for Fish.White Russian,Sugar Mice,Going Under(my personal favourite!)etc.CAS gets my vote.

this --I'm not the biggest fan of the band but they are ok---this seems like their most cohesive album with no weak spots

Not a big fan of the band, Misplaced Childhood and Clutching at Straws are the only two discs from Marillion that I listen to with any regularity. This being said, Clutching at Straws is easily my favorite...

Wholeheartedly agree with Nico here.
My enjoyment of MC has increased over the years, but I never hear the masterpiece that so many others seem to do. Hell I even prefer the debut over it. Fugazi though remains my fave.

Misplaced Childhood. CAS has got some brilliant songs on it, but there's a few in the middle that haven't clicked with me as much as MC.

I think MC is more immediately enjoyable but CaS has more lasting power. I voted for CaS.

Misplaced Childhood.  The band sounded great on CAS but the pacing of it is all twisted to my ears.  Emphasis is placed in the wrong places and it sounds like it is concluding when it has only barely begun.
The world of sound is certainly capable of infinite variety and, were our sense developed, of infinite extensions. -- George Santayana, "The Sense of Beauty"

I loved them in the 80's, while I was still discovering prog rock. They are a good band, and their debut is excellent, it's just that in the overall context of progressive rock, I would say they are nothing special or remarkable.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I prefer Straws to Childhood. It strikes me as a darker idea, which I like a lot, but the music itself is on-par.
