Ingemar Bergman (Kaipa/Kaipa Da Capo) and Ami Lipner (Atmosphera). Nobody talks about them anymore... but they were amazing drummers, definitely on par with the legendary guys.

Well, since you don't have him in your "Not Valid" category, I can't think of anybody better than the machine named Jaki Liebezeit, of Can. Just an amazing ability to keep down a complex rhythm while hitting everything on the kit.

Andy McCulloch, the drummer of Greenslade and on King Crimson's "Lizard".
Mani Neumeier, drummer of Guru Guru. Christian Burchard, drummer of Embryo. Jo Koinzer of German band Brainstorm. Jacky Bouladoux, drummer on Clearlight's "Visions" and on the solo albums of Christian Boulé. the name of Kraan's drummer is Jan Fride Wolbrandt, by the way. on the Kraan albums his name is usually just given as Jan Fride |

the excellent Procol's BJ Wilson (had received many offers while in Harum), now sadly RIP (1990), the only one that remained throughout the 60's & 70's along with Brooker/Reid
He's truly missed on 91's Prodigal Stranger (as he was gone the year before ), and the drums are simplyawful on that album. |

Too many to list really. I see quite a few already listed in this thread that I wouldn't call forgotten by any stretch of the imagination.
"Obscure", brilliant and completely overlooked drummers coming up: Jerzy Piotrowski (SBB) Ivan Fedotov (Vespero) Giulio Capiozzo (Area) Klaus Dinger (NEU!) Dominique Bouvier (Transit Express) Guigou Chenevier (Etron Fou Leloublan) Christian Burchard (Embryo) Narada Michael Walden (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jeff Beck) Enrico Grosso (Dedalus) Clive Bunker (Jethro Tull (vastly prefer his drumming to anything that came after)) Oliver Pedron (Plat Du Jour) Torstein Lofthus (elephant9, Shining) Giancarlo Stringa (Il Balletto di Bronzo) Mani Neumeier (Guru Guru) Frank Niebel (NIL) many many more to list but my brain is switched on Sunday-mode. Agreed. Aynsley Dunbar suffers the same faith. I guess that comes with the territory when you're a session man not the dude doing 20 minute elbow solos on an unsuspecting hi-hat. |
