It's one of the most well-known and well-loved prog albums of all time. Prog fans of all stripes love it. Supper's Ready is regularly held up as the best sidelong in the genre. I don't really think there's any measure by which it can be accurate considered underrated.

It's the bomb.

I see a lot of posts about early Genesis in particular Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound here and on PE, so I have tried several times to listen to both albums to give it a go and try to understand, and sorry I just don't get it, it doesn't click, both sound dated and uninspiring. However I do like later Genesis - home by the sea is (to me) a prog classic and I play it a lot, and I have all the PG albums / DVDs, and even like Phil Collins solo stuff.

I know I'm the minority and have different tastes to most here (I much prefer modern prog).

In summary, Foxtrot - very overrated.

I commend your bravery!

I think Genesis made good music throughout their career, but for me Trespass to Duke inclusive was their best run. After that, the prog dried up and the classics stopped coming.

What do you think of And then there were three? It's one of my favourite Genesis albums, but that view isn't generally shared around here.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

The thing is - the peak of Genesis' recording sessions (Foxtrot/SEBTP) warrant their lofty place - but since I really love extended tracks (see my post (SEBTP tracks) on an alternative universe where SEBTP was a double gate-fold-sleeve release to trump Yes - TFTO) - Imagine Foxtrot as another Double album (triple fold sleeve).
SIDE 1.
Watcher of the Skies (23:17)
SIDE 2.
Get em out by Friday (10:55)
Time Table (5:23)
Can Utility & the Coast liners (14:00)
SIDE 3.
Horizons (3:26)
Suppers Ready PT(1) 22:15
SIDE 4.
Supper Ready PT(2) 25:00

Enough said.

Foxtrot is my personal favorite, but I wouldn't say it is necessarily underrated.

I think Nursery Cryme is more consistent. However, Supper's Ready is the best thing they have ever done. Is it under rated? Maybe a little bit but not as much as Trespass and Nursery Cryme(imo).

I prefer both Selling and Nyrsery to the majestic Foxtrot, which cannot be considered underrated imo. After all it is highly ranked on this site, 6th currently, and it ranks 3rd here https://www.thetoptens.com/best-genesis-albums/

The reason Selling surpasses Foxtrot in popularity is most probably because it has more memorable melodies and riffs, Firth of Fifth, I Know What I Like etc. and is easier to listen to.

Not on Progarchives.  Maybe my home, since I like 3 or 4 other Genesis albums more than Foxtrot.

You had to mention that concert-proven, sing-a-long whore I Know What I Like. A waste of a post.

Really don´t think any of Nursery-Lamb albums are underrated, it seems they all have love they deserved here, also I think all of those albums got positive reviews when they came. I put Foxtrot into second in my personal Genesis album list, right after Lamb. One that can be little underrated is Trespass, but it seems to also have some love here.

It's my favorite Genesis album!

I wouldn't say it's underrated, perhaps maybe a BIT overlooked relative to SEBTP, but nothing more. Most proggers understand how important a record it is.

Not underrated by me - my favourite Genesis album - and probably my favourite album too!

ummm.. this progger sure as hell does not.  Important.. in what way... they still played county fairs and pubs after they did the album.. didn't raise them to 2nd division.. nor made any impact in the prog world. We can't even blame the album for the Neo that was to come.. those albums came later...

so.. an honest question.. other than fanboys loving it today.. what makes it so important.
