Poncey hair-doo's, cheesy synths, plastic sounding drums, cocaine.

One word: mullet.
Okay, one more word: Spandex.
Oh and those stupid chrome studs everyone and their grandma put on their jeans jackets.

Yeah, poodle perms, mullets, spandex, obtrusive snare drums that sound like gunshots, sh*t ballads with HUGE predictable choruses, Meatloaf, Poison..
Bad, bad times...

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

The use of chorus effect was certainly excessive.

electro-pop new wave hair metal gated drums and cheap & shallow production values garbage digital synth that allowed kids not to learn the trade MTV the 80's themselves.

You mean the late 80's? Early 80s weren't that bad. Good sounding albums were still being released eg. Flyrock by RSC or Obras de Violeta Parra by Los Jaivas. The crap snare and sample based synths had't been introduced to the wide public yet, however in late 80s, the classic sound started to crumble away.... oh boy... that's when the turd hit the fan IMO.

For me, it would be bands like Poison who were more interested in looking pretty than making good music.
In general, Bon Jovi is probably the single worst thing about 80s rock music.

I agree. Although, I have a great deal of nostalgia for some of that music now. Go figure, I didn't even like it then.

as previously mentioned in dispatches 'white noise' snare drums Overly quantised and rigid drum programming Weedy digital Synths that no-one could be arsed to program so you heard the same presets on everything Simple Minds (never was a band better named) Australian bands we should have deported back there (INXS, Men at Work)
