hi all, ive been listened to yellowjackets's Mirage a Trois and liked it a lot, almost every song in that album...

the problems is ive saw they have A LOT of albums, and many band members coming and going, and quite frankly i prefer to make a shortcut here...

any recommendations of good albums of them will much appreciated, תודה thanks

I have not heard Mirage a Trois, and don't know about calling them progressive, but I have a few of their albums which I enjoy.  I would recommend Greenhouse and A Rise in the Road which features new member Felix Pastorius, Jaco's son, on the bass.  He is a worthy replacement for co-founder Jimmy Haslip, whose bass has always been one of my favorite parts of the music.

Didn't know that was a thing. Thought they were pretty much adult contemporary smooth jazz. I see their albums all the time at thrift stores. Will pick them up.

I would not clasify them as progressive per say, but I enjoy their music quite a bit.More a smooth jazz band.

You might be better off with some of the earlier albums by Spyro Gyra or even Pat Metheny if you want prog sounding jazzy stuff with a "smooth" element.

I like the Yellowjackets very much but recommending one of their albums is tough because they are all pretty good and evenly balanced.  If you like the Yellowjackets then I would suggest (strongly) checking out The Crusaders.  Start with "Those Southern Knights".

My dad was into jazz(probably still is to a great degree)so I know about the Crusaders. The only one I know by them is Street Life though. To make a prog connection Randy Crawford who sings on it also sang a track on Steve Hackett's "please don't touch" album.

I like the first album of theirs very much. I was quite surprised that they when I found out that they aren't included in ProgArchives back in the day.
I think they play a smooth fusion, maybe not experimental enough too fit PA, too easy listening?

This is good advice.

The only Yellowjackets album I own is Cohearence, which I bought after hearing the title track on my local jazz radio station (yes, there's only one now, which is sad ). This closes out the album and bookends it nicely with "Golden State" at the beginning. Both are interesting, slightly more adventurous, more jazz-focused fusion tracks than the usual "smooth" fare of these bands/artists (which is not to diminish their output in any way). The rest of the album has failed to grab me in the same way, but I would recommend it for these two tracks alone.
