f**king 'tron !!! Give me that cumbersome, difficult to organise primitive sampler. Nothing compares. Love the Mini Moog, love organs (Hammond, Farfisa, Viscount....) and Wurlitzer Electric Piano. The rest can take a hike as far as I'm concerned. Organ through a fuzz-box. Insane sound (thanks D.S.)

The Mellotron, for sure. "A Mellotron is never in tune" according to Robert Fripp, and the stretching of the sampling tapes adds even more icy-ness to the mix. Rod Agent, in the current reformed Zombies, has used it sparingly on the band's last two albums, recorded in 2012 and 2015, and you can pin it out immediately.
It's just a wonderful sound when accompanied with the right music.
Depends really. I don't need mellotron with my Bob Dylan just like I'd find a moog synthesiser completely out of place on an old jazz record. I love all the above instruments in various dressings but chosing one over the other is very much dependant on the music at hand - the dude/gal playing it and my general mood of the day. Let me putbit this way: play Cirrus Minor for me and I'll happily vote for organs afterwards. On the other hand if you put on some Tangerine Dream I'd more than likely show the synth some love. Listening to Herbie play the piano will also change my mind. Conversely, if you get Mohammad Ali to jam on an electric hapsichord there's a good chance I'll be running for the hills.
The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
Organ, with an implication that it's a Farfisa (or other squeaky, cheesy combo organ) or Dave Stewart grinding his Hammond L-122 through a fuzz-box. EDIT: Also voted for Mellotron after realising you can vote multiple times. I love synths, too. And electric pianos.

Quoting Fripp - " Tuning a Mellotron doesn't ". And watching on the toob the technical demands of working the 'tron, (Lars Froislie) - man, what a labour of love.......

It does not make a difference. As long as the music is good, and the instruments are well played and orchestrated properly, I could care less if it's a Hammond organ, a piano, harpsichord, or any other keyboard instrument.
^ doesn't 'orchestrated properly' imply that an appropriate texture has been used to enhance a particular musical idea? e.g. Tarkus would suck on an Accordion or Stylophone

synth over organ
Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.
I have this album - even signed by Roger himself. Great album. When I said " take a hike " it was a ''so to speak' comment, not that I meant it literally. I love the EMS Synth as well.

If you can't hack the laborious effort to play a Mellotron, there's always the digital remake called the Memotron by Manikin. It's just as icy and warped sounding as the analogue original.
