Just a few recent albums that sound depressing.

No vote yet as I have only heard Blackstar so far. As depressing as it may sound (and it can be pretty grim), I also find it life-affirming in a sense, in that he went out with such a powerful (and strange) album that I think really is a testament to his spirit. It's a pretty grand exit. Despite the depressing themes, and it being his exit, that he made it I find exhilarating.

Neither of them sounds depressing to me (Waters & Bowie).

Haven't really paid attention to the Is This? lyrics yet though and Blackstar sounds plain fascinating to these ears.

Cohen's You wan't it Darker, par contre.

I'm only depressed that Bowie passed away when he still had so much to offer as an artist. Blackstar is a wonderful album.

No vote. I have heard too little of Edison's Children. Bowie's worthy swan song and Waters' encore are dark in a way, but they don't sound really depressing to my ears.

Like most everybody so far, I don't find this albums depressing. Quite realistic and and inviting to reflection, the themes make you think and ponder about.

This.

Agreed; well expressed. That's much same sentiment that I planned to write before opting for a different, and in retrotrospect worse, approach to the discussion.

Haven't heard the first, but the latter two I don't find particularly depressing.

Is this voting for the best or the most depressing? Cause the bowie ain't depressing at all, it's majestic
Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

I like the last Waters but Bowie's is a masterpiece. Edison's Children don't do much for me.

Bowie's album is quite stunning, but like others I don't find the album depressing -- more life-affirming in a sense. I think it was a terrific album to go out on, though I would much rather Bowie was still with us, of course.

I agree, and even thematically it could be quite grim.

I intended the most depressing. And yeah, Blackstar is majestic, wonderful, beautiful, a real piece of art... but I still find it depressing. Actually, even though I don't know so many Bowie albums, for what I have heard from him (a few studio albums, a live album, a compilation), I have the impression Blackstar would actually be my favourite album from him overall. However, from this 3 albums, my favourite is definitley the Edison's Children one... though I do think Blackstar is the more depressing.

Haven't heard the Bowie or Edison's album so can't comment, but love the Roger Waters and don't consider it depressing in the least.  It's take on current events is clever and biting sarcasm that often cuts straight through like a knife.  Sure, you could consider the events and situations it takes on as depressing, but the way Roger does it makes me smile Wink
