I'll go for Yes but haven't bothered to get either one on CD.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Both fine albums. Plenty to be found here. A lot of exquisite minatures as the bands take their music and show the rest how its done (as ever).

Oh... choose?

Sorry, how does that work again?

Need a both option.

I have to say though, as mediocre as I think they are, they were only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how far these groups would sink on their next two releases ie:

Shapes > Invisible Touch > We Can't Dance

90125 > Big Generator > Union

Very true---but for me there were always more tasteful-great songs on the mediocre Genesis.

Even though I usually give the edge to Genesis, Yes had more going for them that year (in my opinion).

I was glad to find the updated/remastered 90125 a couple of years ago. That finally gives it the power and clarity that it needed. If your copy sounds "dated", you probably have the old version, and need "the upgrade".

Sorry to have struck a nerve. Say, your cat looks a helluva lot like mine, but she's part of Homeland Security.

I think both albums are very good and underrated, but the Genesis one is more so.. imo.

I do like Yes better than Genesis, and I do love Owner of a Lonely Heart (plus Hold on and Cinema)... and I haven't heard the self-titled Genesis album yet... still, I sort of think I might give my vote to it. I do have heard "Mama" and the "Home by the Sea" duo of songs live, and I do like them even better than Owner of a Lonely Heart, so... (actually, a good poll for me would be "Home by the Sea" vs "Endless Dream", the best prog pieces by each band from their pop periods).

Both crappy albums. But 90215 is at least stylish crap.
