There's also Underdogg Express and I guess you can count the Neumeier + Makoto record, which is basically the same line-up but without Atsushi.

excellent thanks. when I have a moment I'll check it out |
so this is a fun list. although admittedly I haven't heard of like half of it. Out of curiosity, which albums are the witch house and Arabic bellydance music?
as for your AMT picks...aside from AFO...I have Doobie Wonderland (which I like a lot), In Search Of The Lost Divine Arc (which I can't remember what I think about it), and Acid Motherly Love (which I liked but wasn't in love with). I've almost gotten Cometary Orbital Drive and PInk Lady LEmonade in the past, but passed on them (probably because I couldn't find them to sample before buying). My favorites that I would add are 41st Century Splendid Man and In 0 to Infinity (which would round out my top three AMTs along with Absolutely Freak Out) | witch house=Salem - King Night, bellydance=Hossam Ramzy - Sabla Toloyou should at least listen to that version of PLL, it's just accessible and really solid, and COD is basically an album-length variation on a single seven-note theme, but still pretty interesting and well-rounded for that. I can understand you might not have checked those out because admittedly they've got some of their very worst album covers haha. I guess if you have a preference for 41st and I0tI you can also check some on the more ambient side like Troubadours From Another Heavenly World, Does the Cosmis Shepherd, Astrorgasm and perhaps Wake to a New Dawn (which is kinda proggy). Now though: Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus |
Thanks. I might listen to that witch house album just to see what witch house is. :p
That what I heard about PLL but for some reason I just didn't pull the trigger. I'll see if I can find it online again, as it's been awhile since I've looked for it. And I kinda like the COD artwork...it definitely falls into the so bad it's good category. :p And always good to have naked ladies around.
As for your other recs: I've heard Does The Cosmic Shepard... and despite being perhaps their best title, didn't really do much for me overall. I have Astrogasm and WTAND, of which I prefer the latter. I'll see if I can find the Troubadours thing.
As I was thinking this over, I remembered a collection of their earliest stuff that was really great. Their first album should probably be in my top 3, even though I clearly forget about it. Any recs on their most 'out' stuff or their most 'freak out' stuff? | Oof yeah, the compilation of their early tapes is really good, raw stuff but the first proper album is pretty icky in terms of sound quality and consistency, though still fun. For the 'out' stuff I'd normally recommend Acid Motherly Love I guess, also good would be Crystal Rainbow Pyramid, Recurring Dream, Magical Power From Mars (more challenging), Chaos Unforgiven Kisses (featuring a violin!), the IAO Chants and the Acid Mothers Guru Guru albums, though you've probably heard some of those too! Now: My Cat Is an Alien - Photoelectric Season |
True. Sound quality is an issue, but it's good enough for me overall. There is just something magical about the early days of the band for me.
I have both Crystal Rainbow... and Recurring Dream. I'm pretty sure I prefer the latter, but I often confuse the two as I got them at about the same time. The heard the first IAO chant album, but missed the second for unknown reasons. Don't know either Magical Pwer Form Mars or Choas Unforgiven...I'll keep an eye out. Thanks!
