I don't know either band well but comparing on the basis of their biggest respective hits, "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" > "Hotel California".

Used to be The Eagles in my younger days - but I now find much of their output rather bland. While I'm no CCR expert on all their catalogue - their 'hits' are timeless and so fresh even today.

I love Hotel California the song...but I'm not sure I can name any other Eagles track (maybe Hell Freezes Over or was that just the name of a compilation they did a few years back?). Creedence however is a band I've been into since my teens. Ramble Tamble baby!!
Side question: Why are The Eagles hated so much in the US? I often come across this hatred and apart from people being fed up with Hotel California, which have been played to death and back, I am not sure I understand.

Interesting match-up really:Both groups have some country roots (which I dislike), but I much prefer hands down the CCR Frisco roots as opposed to The Eagles LA Roots and I don't like the cowboy travesty of the latter. - CCR has many great songs on six/seven albums, of which I own the first two, and Cosmo/Pendulum (four in total), but I admit that I don't like much on the rest of their albums. However their longer tracks are heaven for psych/prog music fan like me.
- While I own nothing of Eagles (out of six/seven albums as well) and only like two or four tracks: One of These Nights, New Kid In Town, Journey Of The Sorcerer (their proggier moment) and Hotel California (that one is in my top 15 still today, as it helped me get laid a few times in my high-school days)
On another note: I caught Joe Walsh's performance on Sonic Highways and must admit that the 30 some seconds he features with this lingering one note from his guitar far and away are the most thrilling on the album. He doesn't really do anything other than hold a note and then he lingers a bit. Still...beautiful.

I'm sure you love paying $200 for a Ming Brimson ticket, $300 for U2 and $500 for Rog Waters.
Ahhh that makes sense or rather it doesn't I was actually planning on seeing Waters next summer but the price is just insane. I can watch 3-4 brilliant gigs for the same amount of dough...and add to that he probably won't be playing any Floyd material until the encores, and I am not really that into his new album which I'm betting will be the vast portion of the gig (Pros & Cons + Amused to Death are both pretty good though). Also Denmark is consistently 3-40$ steeper ticketwise than pretty much every other European country

They are similar in a way but miles apart to my ears, both are equally great in their own realm. I prefer CCR, but Eagles are so Americana. Jim (Finnforest) described it best in his tribute to Glenn Frey when he died in 2016.

CCR....grew up listening to them with many other late 60's bands......though the Eagles have some very good songs and when Walsh joined he punched up their sound with some nice guitar work as on Hotel California.
Someone asked above why they are so disliked in the US by so many people....I'm not sure they are since most of the people that I know like them ....but there is a music 'purist' crowd (snobs?) who seem to think they are sh*te. I suspect this has more to do with Henley and Frye and their own well known snobby attitudes , the snub from the music press, and their dismissal of excellent guitar player Felder who wrote all or lost of the music for the song Hotel California.

I reccomend all to see the documentary History of the Eagles (2013) and it goes into some details in explaining the inner dynamics and politics if The Eagles. Its viewable on Netflix and one might find it on tube
