Topic: Lesser Known 1979-84 Albums Posted: December 10 2017 at 11:38
For the final poll in the series, I had to cover a wide range of years (1979-84) to find 25 PA albums I have that fit my definition of "lesser known" albums. While Captain Beefheart himself could never qualify as "lesser known", I wanted to give visibility to his 1980 album, "Doc at the Radar Station". Most of us know about "Trout Mask Replica" but "Doc..." shows what happens when you put the Captain and a mellotron in the same room

The only one I know (or knew) is the Planet P Project. I was given a cassette of it by a short-term girlfriend way back when. I recall thinking it was not bad, but it must be 30+ years since I've heard it. Wasn't the drummer formerly with Rainbow? Cozy Powell???

Some very good albums like Anyone's Daughter "Adonis",Memoriance " L'Ecume des Jours D'Apres Boris Vian", Dragonfly "Dragonfly", Bacamarte "Depois Do Fim" and Solaris "The Martian Chronicles": But my vote is Bacamarte followed by Anyone's Daughter !

I thought I know quite a few lesser known albums from that period, but only very few of these. Nice to see the Legendary Pink Dots mentioned for once, though. (Plus votes for Adonis and Beefheart)
I'm not familiar with most of these. I voted for Nightwinds because I thought it was a really good one if it's the same band I'm thinking of which is to say a Canadian band with a very Genesis(circa Trick and Wind)sound. Unfortunately that album has been out of print for some time and will apparently never see the light of day again because from what I heard the master tapes were lost.

great to see so much love for Asia Minor here. I wish they had started earlier - they could have been one of the bigger names in French prog - well French/Turkish prog
I'm actually surprised that the second Rousseau album is beating the first. I do prefer it and partly because I love the vocalist, but I generally thought the first is more respected here
