Agree. Can is one of the bands I recommend that any prog fan listen to at least once. If only for Jaki Liebezeit's brilliance at the drum kit.

So..is this thread about liking classic prog over modern prog.....the difference in retro sounding modern prog rock over modern prog rock with a different style or....if modern prog rock should have it's own category...?

This is a bit like comparing "classic" classical music to everything since. Did classical music ever see the likes of Bach, Beethoven or Mozart again?
Some damn fine music was written and performed since, but those three really nailed it, much like Yes, King Crimson, and Genesis.
I've seen King Crimson's recent comeback shows twice...drop-dead amazing. None of the new prog comes close IMHO. I've seen a bunch of them - Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, etc. Some great musicians, but the compositions are always lacking.

To me Can is greater than Genesis or Yes, specially the period when Damo Suzuki was in vocals.
There has been discuss about how new prog isnīt that great as the old one. More I am worried about, how classical, dirty Rīn`R seems to disappear totally. Same also a good blues. Maybe this is a wrong place to talk about this, but I donīt have any interest to go any "Rock" or "Blues"-forums.

Not bad at all, honestly. I took a break after Future Days which is obviously the most up my alley. Will be listening more for sure!

Personally I prefer the freshness of the newer bands, the stuff prior to 1973 just sounds tired to me (I know I'm in the minority here with this opinion....). I do try to keep an open mind / ears and occasionally try to sample some of the old recommendations that keep coming up here and progressivears but it doesn't do it for me.
