Mike’s playing is similar to Greg Lake (must be that bassist/guitarist thing happening there....)

The Big Man wins, of course - major part of the greatness of YES (bass players build the foundation for any rock band sound, IMO) BUT...Mike is also a fabulous musician, without the shadow of a doubt !

Squire is a great bass player - well, so says my stepson, who is a virtuoso bassist. If you discount Geddy Lee, Tony Levin and Victor Wootton, Squire is as good as anyone else.
Rutherford is a solid but unspectacular bass player but no match for Squire.

Squire of course.
Maybe opposing him to Ray Shulman instead would have generated more mixed results?

Depends what we're talking about. Mike is great on the 12 string guitar and the double neck bass guitar, while Chris is vastly superior on the Rickenbacher bass. Really Mike should be compared with Greg Lake rather than Chris Squire.

I dunno, I admire Sherwood a lot. Such a multi-talented musician, I don’t get all the hate for him.

Mr. Squire. Mr. Rutherford's no slouch either, but Chris gets the nod for this poll.

It's hard to find a good poll competitor for Chris Squire. Maybe Geddy Lee or Les Claypool? Rutherford would have a better shot if the instrument were the Moog Taurus. Rutherford was a very skilled bassist, but Squire is from another planet.

I like Mike Rutherford but Chris Squire wins this hands down. I saw Yes twice without Squire. Once with the new line up & once as ABWH (Hey , who we kidding , it's still Yes) Both time's you could feel something was missing. Squire was a force of nature on stage.

Rutherford doesn't get enough credit for his bass playing. That said, my vote here goes to Squire.
