Drama is my favorite out of these three.
I like them all but Drama is very special for me, if I may say so.

It's going to be a close one between Waves and Drama. Two of my favorite albums from any band. I'm kind of leaning toward Drama at this very instant. That could change. "Machine Messiah" never ceases to amaze. "Duke's on third..."

Waves for me...by a large margin, and I'm not a huge Rush fan.........Drama is ok...some nice tracks .. but it never felt like a true Yes album to me ...and Duke for me is simply when Genesis was past their prime even though people here seem to like it.

Permanent Waves - but Drama has come up in my estimation over recent years to get closer than it was. Duke is for me the last remnants of the Genesis of old, and while not bad at all in places, also has that transitional feel to the commercial pop which followed.

Drama for me, I still think it's one of the few successful albums where a major 70's prog band incorporated a new trend (in this case quirky Buggles new wave) while still sounding prog (Discipline is another). Permanent is not one of my fave Rush albums and Duke...well...it's the 1st Genesis album that painfully exposed the widening gap between the old prog Genesis and the new radio targeted Genesis. You could argue that ATTWT did that first, but I had hoped FU/FMe was a fluke single (like, "I Know What I Like"). Duke made it clear that Genesis was clearly tearing themselves in half in an attempt to drag along the old prog audience as they made the big play for mainstream radio and the land of big album sales.

Duke is up there, but Drama seals it for me.

Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

I bought most of these LP’s around 30 years ago. Still spin them often, but Drama is the one that still gives me a buzz, PW less so, and Duke is a very good Genesis album for sure, but not quite up there with the others.
I think I could live with Drama, Topographic and Relayer when it comes to Yes (oh, and the Yessongs triple LP). |
