Someone out there has to have a definitive answer. I refuse to pay $300+ to see a band if I can't at least ask for the tickets properly.

i alwas thought is was SIG (as in "signature) UR (said like "yer") ROS (with a long O like in "roz")

i might be wrong.

i probably am wrong.

"taak" is gonna be a nice album.

$300 is too much for a ticket to almost any band.

except for maybe a reunited pink floyd with roger waters.

radiohead has a new album coming out soon.

i'll get that.

i don't know why many people don't like radiohead more.

probably "pablo honey."

and i think "hail to the thief" is one of their greatest records.

it's horribly underrated on this site.

the same with "OK computer"

....

well, anyway.....

JAY-EM-SS   DEE-EEN ... (oh sorry they're from Iceland, you say, I thought it was Ireland) ...
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

Yeah, forget about VIP seating...The Joint's small enough to get away with General Admission...and I won't have to actually say the name to get the tickets.

BTW stonebeard: I agree completely about OK Computer.

Original pronunciation: S-I-G-U-R R-O-S

In american: S-EE-G-OU-R R-O-S. The "R-O-S" is the tricky part, so be careful when you try it, you may have to move your tongue in previously unknown patters.

In english: S-I-G-U-R R-O-S.

si-ur rose (the i is like the i in "hit". "rose" is said very quickly)

That's from the band's website.

files.sigur-ros.co.uk/mp3/sigur.mp3 That's a recording of correct pronunciation.

Why is it that you Americans just don't know how to pronounce anything? Sigur Ros is Sigur Ros - simple as that.

Quote si-ur rose (the i is like the i in "hit". "rose" is said very quickly)

It's nothing like "rose"! It's a different vowel quality! [something approximately like cardinal vowel #7 (for those of you familiar with Daniel Jones' cardinal vowels set)] And furthermore, the vowel in "rós" isn't diphthongized like the vowel in "rose", and it isn't long!

And you might also want to articulate a to some degree palatalized "g" in between the vowels in "Sigur"

Very close to silent, but I hear it, and due to it's palatization it's even harder to pick out as a sound, it almost melds in with the vowels.

That should answer any pronunciation-related questions about Sigur Ros.

Only a few hours until Takk is out!

As dumb as it sounds, I always wondered the same thing . As far as I know it's supposed to be the obvious "Oh-Peth," but I've always called them "Oh-Pith" for some reason.
