You brilliant proggers helped me supplement my Goddess Prog so much that i thought i'd drop another "pick yer brains" thread for a new list i made at RYM.

This one is about artists or labels that release albums with the exact same title but they are in reality different albums. This happens to be one of the most annoying things i've ever encountered!

In prog terms, the first two Missus Beastly albums are offenders but others like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Cher have committed these venial sins as well.

Any ideas?

Small faces released a self tittle albums both 1966 & 1967, with totally different songs. Tasavallan Presidentti also made self tittled albums in 1969 & 1971, only one same song, but also that was re-recorded in 1971 album. Santana third album hadnīt got also any name when itīs released (they also got first selftittled album), later it was named 3rd album. I believe there are more but canīt remember now. Many bands of course have those numbers, for example Chicago, Miles Davis.

Rolling Stones Out Of Our Heads Uk & Us versions differ, some same songs. Also Aftermath and Between the Buttons differ a little.

Technically, Camel's 1975 album was called "Music Inspired By The Snow Goose" (due to legal issues) and re-recording was just "The Snow Goose". Of course, "Music Inspired By" is in quite small font on the cover (although the spine of my CD has the whole title in the same font), and I doubt most people refer to it as such... but it's there!

Both Tarantula Hawk albums were either s/t or untitled, depending on your point of view.

ALBUMS
The Beatles [White Album]

The Beatles

The Beatles [White Album] (1968)

Unofficially named the WHITE ALBUM by fans but in reality an eponymous release
The Beatles

The Beatles

The Beatles (2009) [Compilation]

The box set in stereo is also simply titled THE BEATLES.
Couldn't they have been more original and called it STEREO BOX (as opposed to "Mono Box"?

Thanks, I wasn't thinking about compilations. I guess the problem is not many people think of The White Album as actually being called "The Beatles", but you wouldn't really confuse it with a box set compilation.

According to RYM's database, the very first release was just called SNOW GOOSE and then it was released with the MUSIC INSPIRED BY. I'm taking extreme liberties here :)

Yes, the worst offender. His first four albums were called Peter Gabriel 1,2,3 or 4 originally but they now have these silly titles that I can never remember (or be sure which is which).

And then he went from there to having similar two letter names like Ug.

Sounds like you didn't look at the list. Check out what i've added so far:

Actually the worst offender for studio albums is WEEZER and THE KINKS for compilations
