While I do generally prefer Mahavishnu Orchestra over Al Di Meola, Elegant Gypsy is such a special album to me that I choose it on this occasion.

Why did you leave off Lifetime's Emergency? Tony Williams invented the genre and even made Mile's ears perk up to create Bitch's Brew after he heard Lifetime. 
Guess if this is the list, I'll go with Mahavishnu. Though Inner Mounting Flame is equally stunning as Birds.

Third. Birds of Fire is my favorite but Third is what got me into fusion, it changed my life.
