Dave said Eloy........at least they actually are classified as space rock.

;)

As far as some punch...I prefer Hypnos69 and Astra.

I love them all but despite seeing Hawkwind live more than any other band and enjoying material from all their eras and line-ups, my vote has to go with Gong. They just had something very special and unique which just cant be summed up..

I don't know Brainticket - will have to check them out.

The other bands all seem quite different to me.

Oh, I love that one too, and that particular one definitely is Space Rock (or Center of the Eye Rock). If it were a trilogy I’d have voted for them. I find the following albums good, but a bit weak. So, I voted for Gong. Oh wait, we missed the bus, oh no!

it saddens me to see that Brainticket have no vote yet. "Cottonwoodhill" and "Psychonaut" are both awesome albums

Just listened two first songs from Cottonwoodhill and they really didn´t make me listen it more. Ok band, but not even near the greatness of Hawkwind or Gong, prefer also Nektar more.

lol, you made a big mistake there; "Brainticket" is the song to listen to. nothing Hawkwind, Nektar or Gong ever did comes close to "Brainticket"; it is a completely new experienc

I know that one is considered psych/space but for me the later ones sort of straddled the line between space and symph.

Of these bands, only Nektar does it for me; every album is satisfying--even Roye's Christianized releases from the Naughties are admirable and engaging.

Agreed--I love them both--but Nektar's consistency and larger discography of good-to-great albums makes me choose them.

The "Brainticket" suite is the best but "Egyptian Kings" is another awesome Brainticket song. Haven't given last year's release much attention, though...

Confusing "battle" as only Hawkwind is really a Space Rock band.

Gong may be listed under Canterbury, but they are definitely a space rock band. and a lot of Krautrock is also space rock.

unfortunately this site does not allow a band to belong to several genres

Yep, Gong are more Space Rock than they are Canterbury, my opinion of course. Hillage is more Space Rock than Canterbury. Oh, the splitting hairs of genres......
Love all of these bands, but my vote will, somewhat hesitantly, go to the Hawks. It could just as easily go to Nektar and Gong..........
