Two of the Few to be really really hard. Magma is just one of the most amazing things that ever happened in whole music not only from a prog point of view. I donīt know how often I have that rhythm part at the end of mdk ....ing my mind. Simply ingenious. The second time I listened the melodic part at the end of wurdah itah part 1 with the significant piano run and the women singing on top I just knew the damn whole text. So absolutely natural and beautiful. But damn Caravan I just canīt described Caravan somehow potty but so damn soft and smooth just loveable and so british.

I like several Caravan albums considerably, but there's far more Magma that I love and the best (for me) Caravan would not beat the best Magma for me. I like every Magma studio album and live album that I've heard very much. For me, Magma is considerably stronger on the whole in the 70s and beyond than Caravan, but Caravan has put out music that I really love.

Caravan........I like a few things by Magma but I'm a fan of the 'Canterbury School.'

Magma by a nose hair. I find Plump and Mdk to be the only weakness of the 1970-76 period. Overrated crappy albums but the rest are pretty cool by both bands in that period.
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Just voted for Magma, mainly on the strength of MDK which I honestly consider pretty much a masterpiece. Plus there's other albums from them that I really like, the debut, Felicite Thosz, Udu Wudu, and Attahk.. I even enjoy Merci. Plus they needed the vote more. I still consider Caravan really good and vastly underrated on here. An album like Blind Dog at St. Dunstans is generally considered weak on here, but I think it's great. Oh well.

Easily Caravan. I rather dislike Magma (although I tried several times to change this attitude... without success).

I always think of dividing the prog spectra into two sets. Set one is bands that mainly use melodic themes with the occasional weird bits. Set two is the bands who have weirdness as standard with occasional melodic bits....If like me you get irritated by the crows squawking in echoes...you are unlikely to like avant garde or zeule or whatever it is called...

The Question is whether you mean M.d.K. with one song or some other very long thing xD

now that is a tough one...  two bands very high on list of personal favs.

longevity and still great albums many decades later gets Magma the vote.  Creativity is a very finite component of music and the fact that Magma still today remain creative and not just a parody or tribute band to itself who remained progressive throughout their career...says a great deal about the shear talent and creativity within the Vanders.

Really love both, but vote Magma because it has done better albums after seventies.

About sums it up.  Caravan - pair of old comfy slippers whereas Magma continue to perform challenging, unsettling music (by the way, I have seen Caravan many times and Magma only the once...)

Caravan by a lot. How are you supposed to understand a band that makes their own language. I mean, it influenced me that any music even the great PFM and Banco were listenable. But, PFM and Banco are actually speaking a language, not this Kobian ehhh, whatever it is called. Caravan has more melodic music and feels more like rock music than chanting.
