The New Day Festival is a great festival if you are interested in just having a good experience and are flexible about the actual music on show. Last year Hawkwind headlined and they were crap but never mind. Good company , good beer and very nice food.

therein is the rub.. progday is not really about 'prog' what it is is about progressive and since most Neo bands are as progressive as Donald f**king Trump or my left toe and sound like recycled crap... no wonder they really don't have much live support outside of specific festivals geared to those who WANT to someone piss in their beer and spoil the party by playing music that puts people to f**king sleep! hah.

And it isn't just Neo..  Progday really doesn't touch retro prog that much either.. again. the aburdity of the previous statement. It really is more for fans of progressive music.. how many bands there don't even consider themselves prog...  they just make music.. THEIR music.. and could a give sh*t what some eggheads on a internet site call it.

that is the spirit of what prog used to be before it became a parody of itself...  prog.. but completely un-progressive

and oh yeah..  god you are so hot...

A lot of the bands that have graced the ProgDay stage since we started attending (2010) are anything but "traditional" prog - therefore I wouldn't say that the festival is geared to "prog purists" (though our interpretation of this term may differ). Personally, I find Neo bands extremely boring, but not because I am a purist. I'd rather listen to good pop than bad prog, which means I am not the kind of person who shuns songs that are shorter than 15 minutes and have no mellotrons.

bullsh*t... Progday is not.. never has been Nearfest or anything akin to its cliquery or prog snobbery which of course is what killed the f**king thing....

imagine this band closing Nearfest.. it would have been a riot.. when they did close Progday.. it was a f**king party.

Progday is a festival of music lovers.. and more than that.. really just a big party and chance to party and see friends you usually only see once a year. The music?  much less it's 'prog' quotient..  not all that important.  It is more of a progressive music festival more than anything much less being anthing remotely approaching 'prog purists.

Just looked at the website and I admit I was maybe a bit out of line there or at least unintentionally exaggerating out of not being up to speed on things. They do get symph stuff and I see they had Par Lindh and Edensong recently. I guess I was referring more to the typical neo stuff which is understandable since most prog fans like to make fun of it. IMO, Progday is mostly a festival for prog purists and I can see that not going over too well there. Anyway, despite my previous involvement(a long time ago now) I have been out of the loop and don't follow it that closely and don't even know much about most of these bands so I'm probably talking out of my butt except for the part about them typically not booking neo bands. LOL.

I'd suspect that is because of Dennis.   And Progday has never been about being any one thing..  at least till last year it was a diverse crosssection of the progressive scene.  Hoping last year which was good yet disappointing in its lack of diversity was just an aberation and not the sign of things to come.

They try to some degree but let's be honest they haven't had many symph or neo bands in a long time and they tend to concentrate on the less accessible end of prog. I'm not saying they aren't eclectic but the Rosfest type of bands are typically low on their list of priorities. But it's cool. The organizers aren't really fans of that kind of music(at least not since Steve S. ran the show) and that is fine. They can do what they want. Rosfest is now in Florida so even less reason to try to appeal to the symph crowd. Anyway, this is more of an observation than a criticism.

I need this.

you do forget Seaprog and what our dear friend Dennis and his crew is trying to do up there... but point is taken

lack of audiences does often equal lack of money for paying bands.. which even in Trump world in which seemingly no rules apply anymore... which equals no bands.. thus no festivals.
