Seeing as we have taken over the site I have decided to run a RIO/Avant World Cup

This will have 12 groups of 5 to start with the top 2 advancing

The #1 seeds were based on the original 8 RIO bands plus 4 additional seeds.

The balance were picked across countries and based on number of rankings. I kept bands from the same country apart.

Top seeds - Henry Cow, Univers Zero, Aksak Maboul, Etron Fou Leloublan, Stormy Six, Samla Mammas Manna, Art Zoyd, Art Bears, Present, Thinking Plague, Cardiacs, Frank Zappa.

Group A
Henry Cow UK - 789 ratings - 4.02 average
The Residents USA - 40 albums
Hoyry-Kone Finland - 212 ratings - 4.08 average
Zu Italy - 145 ratings - 3.77 average
Nazca Mexico - 51 ratings - 4.10 average

With your nerves in tatters
When the cockleshell shatters
And the hammers batter
Down your door

You'd better run!

Argh! Good idea, but would like to listen to them all before voting, and I'm in the middle of moving places (actually even countries)...

Gotta give it to the cow.

Love Zu and quite like HK and Nazca too.

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

Wow you weren't kidding.

Got to go with the Residents from this group. Henry cow is probably going to run away with this group but they never really grab me. The Residents might just be the best storytellers in music regardless of which phase or chosen media they're using.

Am I going to be representing Australia? Tongue

Not familiar with the last two, so I probably shouldn't vote.

I saw the Finish Steam Machine twice in concert, and they impressed me very much

So looks like a straight up Hoyry-Kone vs Residents battle for second qualifying spot.
