Mostly when I'm buying I've made some list that week on what I'm going to buy, but often it turns out to be other cd's then what first was planned and sometimes more.

2-10 sometimes a little more, let's say 6-7 a month that would be most correct I think

I never bite the hand that feeds...If I did that, I'd cut off my income supply......but I've a spare DVD player which never gets used.....

How about selling the cooker as well? You could just live on bags of crisps.

Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind, but the cooker is the ONLY thing in my flat which is owned by the Youth Hostel!!

Anyone want an antique pine effect TV cabinet?

By not "filling the money grabbing executives pockets", you also steal from the artists whose music you enjoy. Isn't this a bit... wrong?

Lately I decided that I want to get to know of prog metal bands, so I started
going through all the prog metal bands listed here and downloaded all the
mp3's which were available to them, then I just made a playlist of them and
started listening. Everytime I hear a song which I like or sounds intriguing, I
look at the name, write it down to my notebook with the album names.
When I'm in the store or going through online shops I just go through my
notebook and try to find the albums. The problem is that I tend to find way
too many which I like :(.

1. Perhaps 5 or 6 CD:s an average month, and some LP:s.

2. Prog radio (Delicious Agony), and this page, together with the webstore I use, helps a lot on the neverending quest.

Since spring this year I have started to shed money for CD's on a weekly basis more or less. I think it amounts to 5 or 7 CD's a month (I tend to buy two at a time if the prize is right).  In fact, I am about to head to the city centre in a moment, knowing that I really can't make my usual round in my fav record stores since I should look for clothes rather than music...and it depresses me.   Imagine that, a woman who dislikes going clothes shopping. Buying music is just so much more fun!

Apart from having a list of CD's written in my notebook, I also have a mental list of CD's I'm looking for residing in my head on a permanent basis, and when I get to the stores, I initially start searching for them in alphatetical order. One store here in Helsinki has all prog CD's -and there is a pretty wide selection of them- separated from the rest of the stuff which makes it nice and easy to just pick any I think I may fancy. The final decision between the ones I have selected for further inspection is made pretty much at random since I don't have the option to listen to downloads. Then again, getting classics from prog's heyday in the 70's has proven to be a safe venture for the most part, no matter what I choose to get in the end. It's all good

I've promised myself to buy only one lower prized CD today... I'd better make it a special one!

Heh, I just came from that store with 4 new albums ;). Great store, I have
decided to try to support them as much as I can instead of buying the
albums from webstores. They even got a lot of the rarer stuff and are
usually willing and interested to get them if you are interested.

Keltainen Jäänsärkijä?  I wonder if we happened to be in there at the same time?? In the future, remember: I am the girl with long blondish hair, who probably looks most out of place there appearance-wise, lol! But yeah, it's a gold mine for any newbie of prog and even for those more well-versed on the genre... Admittedly I have records on my wishlist that cannot be found there (or in Popparienkeli, another good shop, of course) but if what you say is true then perhaps I should ask them to help me to get them -they could do the ordering and I could concentrate on the waiting-game, lol.

Incidentally, I had more money on my bank account than I had realised so I could easily afford to not keep my promise and so left the shop three CD's richer, yay.

Yeah, that's the one. Talk to the blonde guy there if you need something,
I think he has better knowledge.

Five to ten, my favourite record shop in Paris has not only a big Prog Section, but does Second hand sales which are filed alphabetically with the rest of the records. The other day I bought a 'Djam Karett' live record, a band I didn't knew at all  second hand. When I am going on a trip to a foreign country or know somone who does, I buy local records or ask friends to buy them for me. I bought quite a lot of Italian Prog in the summer. There is a ProgMail Order Shop in France MUSEA,where I order records I can't find  elsewhere and I buy sometimes on Amazon.

I've got a new CD buying policy; contrive to find a bit of overtime to do.......I reckon an extra day is equal to 6/7 CDs...

So what made you buy it if you didn't know the band at all?

between 0 and 1. Mainly because I would buy MANY more, but 20 Euros are an outrageous sum. Yeah, I know amazon sometimes sells at 12$, but adding shipping expenses, taxes & the likes, you won't see much difference...

Listening, news, friends, and sometimes by doing an insane (for my wallet) tour in a music store...
Of course, progarchives!

Just because it was in the Prog section and very cheap, a good way to discover music. If I would have waited to look up the group in PA, the record would have been gone. it is a great record BTW.

CDs bought per month (on average) - 15-20 ... sometimes 35-40.

I usually frequent one of the very many Record Exchange stores here in the Northeast Ohio area (there are 11 or so total) or purchase on the internet. The internet is always the best way to go it seems, as far as price for a new item, however I always enjoy the experience of going out to a store to pick something up. But as well all know they usually don't have what we proggers are looking for (unless as previously mentioned, it's used)
