I love Hawkwind
Specifically their albums from the prog masterpiece mellotron-drenched '75 Warrior at the Edge of Time (Lemmy's final Hawkwind album) through the early 90's live albums like Palace Springs & California Brainstorm. I really liked that when the musical changes of the 80's hit, they didn't abandon their best known 70's songs (Assault & Battery, Silver Machine, Assassins of Allah, Magnu, etc) they sped them way up and made them even more psychedelically insane. Also love their side projects like Hawklords, Nik Turners Hawkwind Experience, Calvert's solo album Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters, etc... If you've never explored Hawkwind, I'd recommend starting at Warrior. If you don't like the opening track, I wouldn't bother going any further Edited by The.Crimson.King - January 04 2019 at 14:49 |

Well if I added Thin Lizzy I might be tempted to put in UFO(who's first two albums apparently were rather spacey). But then I might also have to add Montrose, Nazareth, April Wine and venture into more non prog hard rock. Stay tuned for my next poll. It won't be those bands but it might be as interesting. ;)

I like all 3....but I like Argus the same as Warrior On The Edge of Time and about the same as the first 2 Heep albums...but I like other albums by all of them about the same.....tough choice.

I've been a fan of Wishbone Ash since I first heard their early albums in 1972, so I have to go with them. Argus is my all-time favourite album by any band.

Would Thin Lizzy fit a comparison with listed bands?

It's so close between the three, but today it's Hawkwind. Tomorrow? |

Hmmm, interesting poll! I'd have to go with Ash, with Hawkwind a close second.

Heep, for vocal department (Byron, Lawton) and harmonies, organ and superior (if not genius) songwriting (courtesy of Hensley).

Interesting results thus far, I thought Wishbone Ash would warrant more votes!
Make mine the boys from Torquay! I saw the original band when Wishbone 4 came out (August 1973), and Andy Powell's version twice....Andy's band does a fine job with the old material. I'd love to see the parallel band fronted by Martin Turner, but they don't come stateside much. Any prog is better than no prog. Happy New Year all!

Uriah Heep tops my list, followed very close by Hawkwind, and Wishbone Ash a small distance behind.

Ok, truth be told I contemplated adding Magma and or Eloy to the mix but didn't thinking those two would get more votes(and making it unfair)than these three.

These are all legendary bands, IMO. I simply own more albums by Hawkwind and thus get more enjoyment from them.
