Yes just over Genesis. Both a highly enjoyable listen every once in a while.

I actually like Alpha a lot. As a kid I had both it and the self-titled and listened the crap out of them. But for this poll I went with Genesis, always really close between it and 90125. Those two albums were my introductions to Yes and Genesis and so are really special to me.

This is a really hard one because at the time I was giving both bands a lot of leeway in going all out for commercial success. I think I'd like to cobble together an album from the proggiest from both albums. Heheheh. BTW if anyone wants to venture a compilation along those lines I'd like to see it posted in this thread. So before I vote I'd love to see those. Still I have faced with another difficulty is that I have never cared to get either of these on CD and I haven't had a functioning turntable in years so. I may be going on memory. I'll see if I can answer it from such but bloody hell it will take some effort. I may be able to download what I need for my combo. I will be faced with the issue of restricting my songs to format of two sides in one album. Buuut I think I can do this. If I should die trying....
I did overlook the last two on the list. I can't consider them because I do have Hackett but I never had Asia. And anyway I am assuming that when it comes to commercial success neither of them came close to the first two... Edited by Slartibartfast - April 19 2019 at 23:26 |

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

From the 80's Genesis Line-up, as far as I know it, I would go: Follow you follow me (though not yet 80's, but almost), Duchess, Duke's Travels, Dodo / Lurker, Mama, Home by the Sea / Second Home by the Sea, Invisible Touch, Tonight Tonight Tonight, Land of Confusion, The Brazilian, No Son of Mine.
From the Yes West Line-up: Owner of a Lonely Heart, Hold On, Cinema, Shoot High Aim Low, Holy Lamb, The More we Live let go, Endless Dream. And I guess Asia fits just fine with this ones: Ride Easy, Only Time will tell, Midnight Sun, Open your Eyes, Never Again, Parallel Worlds / Vertex / Deya, Finger on the Trigger, Tomorrow the World. |
