I don't know the VDGG album much at all so can't vote. But I think "In Held" is the very definition of the bloated prog epic, which brings down the whole album. The title cut and "Quite Rightly So" are both great though

Bloated prog epic...? You must be thinking of Plague of Lighthouse Keepers from Pawn Hearts...? ;)

Both were historicaly important.
But the VDGG album is an absolute favorite of mine and After the flood is from other planet.

I like Procol more than VDGG, but they really weren't getting up to speed yet at that point (their second album). Things started jelling with Home (their fourth), and especially Grand Hotel (their seventh). So, going to have to go with VDGG in this instance.
But this is apples vs. oranges. Procol = bright, VDGG = dark. Different flavors. One isn't better than the other.
