Some NWOBHM bands experimented with prog, at least trying to make songs more elaborated.
For example Dark Star's Green Peace, or Cloven Hoof's Return of the Passover.

For an up-to-the-mnute suggestion, how about Waste of Space Orchestra:
It's a collaboration between Oranssi Pazuzu and Dark Buddha Rising. The album, Syntheosis, comes out in a couple of weeks. Edited by Mascodagama - March 23 2019 at 10:33 |

Cellar Darling. Their new album (The Spell) is just amazing, as was their first (This Is The Sound). Not mega-heavy, but definitely prog metal, with folk influence (flute and hurdy-gurdy). Brilliant!......

You could try Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, and when you've had enough of that, you could always try Writing on the Wall.

Unexpect is simultaneously the most chaotic, proggy, heavy, and intense music I've listen to that I actually enjoy.
Edge of Sanity's album Crimson is also a must

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.
