Of this list, King Crimson. Jethro Tull had also great violins, conduted by David Palmer (now Dee Palmer).

German symphonic prog band Hoelderlin have a strong violinist, and Chris Karrer in Amon Düül II plays the violin on occasion with good effect.

So I was grooving on Bent Knee and this popped into my head as a fun poll.  Just looking at the artists I have put up it is impossible to choose a favorite.  So I'm gonna allow multiple votes.
