The first violin-forward prog band that comes to my mind is FM, with the inimitable Nash the Slash (and later with the likes of Ben Mink, Aaron Solomon and Edward Bernard).

Curved Air from the list but PFM, East of Eden and Spirogyra has nicely integrated violin vital for their sound.

Kansas, from this list. Tull would have been a good inclusion, as well as Big Big Train.

No Frank Zappa/Mothers? Jean Luc Ponty is still playing the music of Frank Zappa.

I miss ELO (Mik Kaminski) and FM. Actually is quite hard to
choose especially between Kansas, UK and Mahavishnu (Jean-Luc Ponty years).

Easy vote for Kansas. Coulda' been UK if they'd had more output.

Voted UK over Crimson because KC not really violin-led. JLPonty and Didier Lockwood have some great stuff. Love Wolf's "McDonald's Lament". Love the violin on Bob Dylan's "Hurricane"!
