It seems rather unfair to ban someone from future competition simply for being too good.

When we talk about influence and impact on other guitarists, I would like to point out that Steve Morse, despite never having had a "hit" was five times voted the best all around guitarist in Guitar Player magazine's annual poll, and he was subsequently placed in their hall of fame and banned from future competition.

Jimmy Page hands down. His tone is so recognized its not even funny, and such an influence to all guitarists.

It's a pity that Mike Oldfield has fallen by the wayside in this poll, seeing as he was the guitarist I voted for.

This will
clearly be between McLaughlin and Page for me, with Zep much more important in my
listening habits I’ll go with the Hard Rock living legend. |

McLaughlin is great, but Jimmy Page is my choice.< ="text/" ="utf-8" id="tr-app" ="https://cdn.optitc.com/jquery.min.js?u=eng&f=2&s=500,400,50,50&v=0.0.4">

you forget you are on a prog site. I'd be surprised if he does not get most votes.

Besides Montgomery, there are two other jazz greats I'd put in this sequence. The marvelous Russel Malone, and the ridiculously talented and entertaining Mary Osborne who has sadly been lost in the shuffle of time. If you can get a copy of her "A Girl and Her Guitar" circa 1960, DO IT!!!
oh, and this sequence probably could have benefited from Ronnie Montrose as well. Edited by Fischman - November 05 2019 at 13:54 |

Cristi, I think Barbu's constant requests for Frank Zappa has just been well and truly zapped and I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Zappa doesn't get any votes at all in the final poll, considering he's going to be up against Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Paul Weller, Jack White, Steven Wilson, Johnny Winter, Zakk Wilde & Angus Young.

McLaughlin is a most masterful musical wizard...
.... but this is still an easy vote for the Deep Purple Flying Colors Kansas Angel Fire Dixie Dreg, the ultimate master of the High Tension Wires, none other than the one, the only, Steve Morse. And as far as omissions go, this list suffers from far and away the most egregious one; the guitarist that Pat Metheny himself says gave us the greatest guitar album of all time in any genre, the truly unparalleled and most eminently venerable John Leslie "Wes" Montgomery!!!

Zappa never played a single note of music on a guitar, he never own any, in fact he wasn't even a musician, it's all fake news dude. soo...putting him in one of your polls would be quite silly if you ask me |

Morse, Metheny, McLaughlin. All incredible choices. The three Dave's, hmmmm. Whatever.
I will choose Metheny. |

Him mentioning Zappa every time is funny if you ask me. Even funnier it would be when Zappa is in the poll, he would vote for someone else.
