There are quite a few threads on different sites about the differences between USPM and EuroPM, but not the similarities between the two genres. So, I would like to know what exactly are the relationship between the two. A bit off topic but what differentiates USPM from Thrash and Speed Metal.

Not many similarities aside of the instruments being used (guitar, bass, etc). How they are used is different. And lyrical content might find some similarities: a common topic on both US and EU power metal bands have songs about miraculous worlds, mythology, mysteries, etc.
