I've since narrowed my playlist down to 25 solid Symphonic Metal bands and weeded out all of the Progressive Metal bands, with a lot of help from Cristi.  I'm sorry to hear about Floor Jansen.

^ I do love Dream Theater, and Ayreon too. Cristi persuaded me to drop Ayreon and Dream Theater from my original playlist, on account of them both being Progressive Metal bands and not Symphonic Metal, which seems fair enough.

That's not so surprising. My Train of Thought usually follows a different path to everyone else's here. Maybe one day, if there's A Dramatic Turn of Events, I'll finally get around to putting together a Progressive Metal playlist When Dream and Day Unite, or before I Fall into Infinity. Either way, it's a long Distance Over Time away. How's that for irony?
