This Folky Females poll is intended just for British Folk singers, before anyone asks me why I left out Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins and Joan Baez. Wink

I left an empty space at the end of the poll for anyone I may have left out. Smile

So hard to choose between Jacqui and Sandy for me, both are phenomenal singers.  But I'll go for Jacqui here, just because she's so rarely mentioned.

I'm finding it hard to choose too. It's a choice between Barbara Gaskin (of Spirogyra) or Lee Menelaus (of Agincourt and Ithaca) or Marianne Segal (of Jade), or maybe even Alisha Sufit (of Magic Carpet).

The delightful Maddy Prior although I would expect Sandy Denny to win the poll. I hardly know any names on the list. I wonder if Clair Hammill might fill the missing slot although not sure if she is strictly 'folk'. She did seem very influenced by Joni Mitchell Smile

Bobbie Watson.  Amazing angelic vocals that contrast brilliantly with Roger Wootton's much harder, at times even evil sounding, vocals.

What, no Loreena McKennitt?  Where is Barbu when you need him?  I went with Madison Prior, but Sally Oldfield was oh so close behind

I've got nothing against North American Female Folk singers. It's just that I already used up all 25 slots in the poll with British Female Folk singers, and seeing as Loreena McKennitt is Canadian, I couldn't include her in the poll. There's no reason why you couldn't have a separate poll of North American Female Folk singers though, but there isn't room for British and North American Female Folk singers altogether in the same poll. I hope that makes sense. Smile

This. Btw, I am not exactly fond of Bobbie Watsons squealing vocals.

I only included Bobbie Watson by special request. Smile

Kidding, man. I understand your choice to exclude them...those British names would have not stand a chance against Joni and Loreena.

I'll have a North American Female Folk singers poll coming up just as soon as I can find 25 names to fill it with. Smile

Who would have guessed Bobbie Watson (of Comus) would have more votes than Sandy Denny in this poll though?
Bobbie Watson picked up two votes before she was even included in the poll. Tongue
