what is the title all about? Does it have anything to do with an abacus?

I was thinking that it might be about ABACAB rhyming style...

eg.

Brown (A)
Car (B)
Frown (A)
Beat (C)
Clown (A)
Jar (B)

are any of the lyrics using this rhyming pattern on the album? Have i gone completely off the mark?

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for too many replies to this question...... The vitreol surrounding the post-Hackett edition of the band is wide-spread in this forum and far be it from me to throw gasoline on an already raging inferno..............

I would love to answer your question frenchie, but I haven't got a clue! It's one of those mysteries, that's never been sold. It's some 'in' joke between Banks, Collins & Rutherford I'm sure.

I'm going to do a web search

[QUOTE=frenchie]

what is the title all about? Does it have anything to do with an abacus?

I was thinking that it might be about ABACAB rhyming style...

I READ SOMEWHERE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE DIFFERENT THEMES ON THE SONG, THAT IN MUSIC ARE USUALLY NAMED PROGRESSIVELY STARTING WITH AN

"A" STANDS FOR THE FIRST THEME THAT YOU LISTEN

"B" FOR THE SECOND

"A" MEANS THAT AFTER THE SECOND THE FIRST IS REPEATEAD

"C" MEANS THAT AFTER THE REPETITION OF "A", COMES A NEW THEME

"A" IS ANOTHER REPETITION OF THE FIRST THEME

"B" A REPETITION OF THE SECOND

"A" A FOURTH REPETITION OF THE FIRST

"B" A THIRD REPETITION OF THE SECOND

TO EXPLAIN IT BETTER I WOULD NEED A PENTAGRAM, OR TO INTRODUCE THE SONG EXCERPTS OF EACH THEME, I HOPE IT IS CLEAR ENOUGH ANYWAY.

BEST REGARDS

I found this on www.songmeanings.com

"I'm not sure about the meaning of the song, but the word "Abacab" refers to the parts of the song. "B" representing Tony Banks's part, and "C" represents P.C, obviously. "

The author doesn't say who's part the A represents.

I had always heard it was the chord progression of the song.

As a non-musician, I can't vouch for that, but I believe it to be true.Ermm

This is what I have said above and always believed! But....according to Wikipedia the song had three parts labled A, B and C, and they kept on changing the parts around, and at one time ot was in the form A-B-A-C-A-B, althppugh this isnt the final structure, which is Accaabbaac!

Thats what Wikipedia says anyhow!

Confused  Perhaps so -- we need one of you musicians out there to pick it out on your piano or guitar, and get back to us ASAP, so we can get on with our sad little lives....Stern Smile

I believe the structure of the song is actually ABABCAB - but that would be a daft name for a song, wouldn't it!  What worries me more is the bits about pillows and cellophane......what the fandango is that all about?

I know it's a dream but I can't let go

B - BAD (;)

A - ALSO (,)

C - COLLINS

A - ARTISTICALLY

B - BORING
