In my last Poll
"Which genre of prog do we prefer?" (where multiple votes were allowed) The results were: 1) Symphonich prog 64. 2) Eclectic prog 29. 3) Crossover prog 22. 4) Canterbury Scene 20 5) Jazz-rock /Fusion 19 6) Heavy Prog 18. 7) Prog - Folk 16. 8) RIO / Avant - Prog 15 9) Neo Prog 15. The other genres have taken 10 or less than 10 votes. So this is the final race! Choose only your FAVOURITE GENRE. Edited by jamesbaldwin - April 26 2020 at 05:43 |

Hard to choose, but I choose Eclectic, just because King Crimson, Family and Traffic has put in PA there.

National Health is one of my favorite bands, so Canterbury.

I listen to stuff from all of these nowawdays, but I always get the most enjoyment out of Cantebury (Bonus points if you count Camel as cantebury, which I generally do)

From this list, my heart and soul lies in Canterbury. From the moment I discovered Soft Machine s/t and Caravan’s If I could do it all over again......that was it. Otherwise, it’s Hammill and VDGG, and Extreme Metal. But I’ll always be a Canterbury hippie.

Symphonic prog is winning despite few claim to have voted for it ...
It's like between Biden and Sanders: nobody said to vote for Biden but in the end Biden won! Come on SP voters, have the courage for your actions! We will beat you!

1) Neo (I love IQ, Pendragon, Marillion, Arena, Tiger Moth Tales)
2) Prog Folk (Horslips, Strawbs, Mostly Autumn, Iona) 3) Symphonic (Camel, Genesis)

Rush is listed as Heavy Prog so that's my choice, although everything here is "heavy prog" LOL. Symphonic would be my next choice with Genesis being my #2 band.

Haha. It's rather like so how so many shoppers over here wont admit to shopping at WalMart, yet the place is always bustling, not that I would know.I would never shop there. ;) In my experience, Symph fans make up the vast silent majority, but then that's not really surprising as they also make up the majority of prog fans. I have found fans of the more niche genres to be more vocal in polls percentage-wise, which is also not surprising. The minority is often louder in a sense as individuals and groups so they can be heard. The mainstream doesn't have the same struggle in being noticed. As for me, I really don't have a favourite category. Had Krautrock or Electronic made it through, I might have given either of those a vote. And poor Zeuhl, and even poorer Indo-Prog/Raga Rock. Canterbury Scene/Sound is the most consistently good to my ears of those listed, but I love so much RIO/Avant, and it does have Art Zoyd. Then again, I love JRF such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. I often say that I'm a folky at heart, and my heart is telling me Prog Folk. Prog Folk it is. |

I also chose Eclectic due to Crimson but I like several categories equally in the end.

I don't see Progressive Electronic up there, so I'll vote Jazz Rock/Fusion, since I've been listening to a lot of that.

Symphonic and eclectic as you can see by my reviews. Hard to choose. But maybe I prefer a little more the symphonic, once I'm a great fan of the classical music.
