Two rather mellow VDGG tunes.

Two masterpieces.
But the arrangement of Refugees creates a celestial atmosphere that, in my opinion, made of it one of the greatest elegiac song of all times.

I really love both tracks, and both I find very poignant and emotionally resonant, but “House with No Door” I find particularly poignant and emotionally resonant. I also find it to be achingly beautiful in its way. “Refugees” always leaves me feeling a sense of bittersweet nostalgia, and “House With No Door” resonates with feelings of isolation and alienation that I have experienced and continue to struggle with. These are two songs that I commonly link together, when I think of one, I often think of the other.

Always loved Refugees (the 6:20 version).
Also, I think Out of my Book is a beautiful song. Edited by Tom Ozric - May 22 2020 at 23:09 |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

For some reason Refugees always rubbed me up the wrong way. If I'd make a list of VDGG songs, I'd probably rank 90% or more above it. House With No Door on the other hand got me from the very beginning.

I liked the lyrics of House With No Door from the very beginning. The music took somewhat longer to appreciate. It is still my least favourite track on the album, but it is facing very stiff competition from tracks such as Lost, Pioneers Over C, The Emperor In His War-Room, and Killer. |

Refugees is huge plains, hope, and sunset. House with No Door is a stone tower, despair, and rain outside. The latter is more "whiny" and "sadder", but I have to give it a very slight edge. I just love that "damp" piano.
