Two albums by two of the greatest symphonic prog bands of all time (or possibly the two greatest afore mentioned), both considered by critics and fans alike as where they went totally commercial or jumped the shark. Which, however, held on to their older traditions more?

As much as I love Yes, Invisible Touch gets the nod on this one. Both bands were most certainly not in their prime for these releases - however, Invisible Touch showcases more prog elements overall IMHO.

90125 has catchier tracks IMO though!

I'll give my vote to 90125. I really enjoy it more, and it's the only of the two that I would give a spin these days.

Yes, it's 90125 without a doubt for me, because Genesis had lost their Invisible Touch of magic in my eyes and ears by the 1980's. Smile

I don't know if it's more proggy but I like 90215 better! So, it gets my vote! Tongue

I prefer 90125 but I think invisible touch is more "proggy".

90125 sh*tz on IT from a great height. IT has Domino, and a couple of tolerable tracks, but also has dreadful extreme pop, which should never made it to a Genesis album IMO.

I like every track on 90125. 90125 wins hands down.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Invisible Touch ---the pop songs are better--and nearly one side is very prog--Domino and The Brazilian...plus I love Tonight Tonight..especially the middle part. 90125 has catchy hooks but like all things Rabin, it has its cheesy parts---plus strangely it sounds way dated (80's) than Invisible touch does..

Tough call. I've owned and (mostly) enjoyed both.

Yeah, it's a great track. The one thing that drags Invisible Touch for me is the title track. It epitomizes 80s pop Genesis in a negative way. Can't stand that song.

What it all boils down to me is when considering pop Genesis vs pop Yes, I find the Yes songs more enjoyable so Yes it is. Which one is more prog? I dunno. Flip a coin

You should have a "they both suck" choice.

I wouldn't wish to listen to either again to make a judgement.

Agreed here. Mind you, I reckon Genesis is better than pretty much everything else in music, so consider me biased.

Invisible Touch has not aged well to my ears, 90125 still sounds better. As for the Prog quotient, I’d say Genesis still had some vague links to their past which were a bit more ‘faithful’ than Yes. Both about the same really, more Pop, glossy, commercial. Live performances were still almost classic. My vote goes to Genesis.

say what you want they knew how to write a song and.. they took pride in writing short hits---as they would say--like the Beatles...like In too Deep or Throwing it all away---ANthing she does is bad however LOL

(Adele has mentioned them as an influence not that anyone on a prog site would care!)
