I think it´s more lack of universally loved new artists in all the genres. And reason is obvious: so much music in the world today, also so much genres and sub-genres.

Prior to their inclusion on PA, it seemed like about 50% thought they belonged here, but pretty much everyone thought their music was good (even if they didn't think it is prog). |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

If it's about lack of appreciation, I believe that most fans prefer new artists in the old school style psych rock and symphonic prog class as opposed to many of the newer artists who are more in the Advant/RIO class. Look at the more popular artists like Porcupine/S. Wilson. Not much Avant/RIO in that form of prog.
As opposed to a group like The Cardiacs.

Post Rock seems to have some mainstream appeal. For example, Sigur Rós was on an episode of The Simpsons. |

Hi, In general, I don't like to say things like that ... it bothers me some ... however, when you see another Admin, or some "reputable" person in the board fight for their GENESIS or YES, or worse, JT ... then we know that there is a problem. We need those folks to help steer the ship correctly ... into the area of appreciation and the quality of the work involved, and not have to think/worry that our favorite band from yonder days, is now no longer appreciated ... it's been a long time, but no one has lost the appreciation for Beethoven, Stravinsky and many others ... except here, of course, where "meandering" is the greatest insult to music that has ever been thought of by "progressive" folks ... that obviously do not know how to close their eyes and just fly baby ... just fly!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Their top album has 23,000 ratings on RYM, that's more than U2, Bruce Springsteen and comparable to The Beatles.

The 2010s were the worst ever decade for all rock, that's why.
Let's hope the 2020s are better.

I've bought more music in the 10's than any decade since the 70's.

It's not the lack of good music, but the opposite. It's easy to be overwhelmed with new music that will probably not get the time and attention it needs to be truly appreciated.

If we're talking ALL of rock, I think the 2000s were worse.

Courtesy of wikipedia Ágćtis byrjun was placed by Pitchfork at number 2 on their annual Best Albums list for 2000, and was placed at 8 on their top 200 albums of the 2000s, released on 2 October 2009.[17] In December 2009, Rolling Stone ranked Ágćtis byrjun the 29th best album of the 2000s.[18] Ágćtis byrjun peaked at No. 24 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart in January and as of 2008 it has sold 227,000 copies in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan.[21] In Europe it was upgraded to Platinum by Impala award for 400,000+ copies sold up to 2012.[22] Not bad at all for a prog band. |

The bands you've mentioned are just extremely popular whilst in 10's such bands didn't emerge for some reason. I'd say it's general popularity rather than some "love consensus". Maybe the reason is the increasing amount of bands together with the lack of new ideas that would appeal to masses. It's now harder for any particular band to get as much attention.
