Uriah Heep was once described as a 'mutant version of Deep Purple' with a strident singer who deserved the music he sang. I do own the first 6 bought on original vinyl when they came out, but in my  defense I was young and foolish in those days

You mean you never get in the mood these days for something that is like a "weird deep purple?" Wink That's how I think of them anyway. Sometimes you just want to rock out and don't feel like listening to Sabbath or Zeppelin for the millionth time.

Well..  now that you put it like that, I do play the first one,  US version , now and then. And there are some decent tracks on the first 5 lp's, but there are many other things to play......

Yeah, have you heard the band Black Bonzo? They were a Swedish band from maybe fifteen years ago who had that Uriah Heep sound down pat but maybe put a slightly modern prog spin on it. Worth checking out.

Agreed.

Sadly, I doubt that many folks will go back and listen to TRAFFIC as much as they will the harder and more rock oriented URIAH HEEP ...

The band TRAFFIC was much more important to a lot of the music scene, than UH ever was. AND, it deserved its accolades.
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

The Heep has/had about three times the amount of stuff Traffic did, and was more of a band, rather than a few guys. A lot heavier and more adventurous / prog. too.

Traffic. I tried finishing the water heater, but I needed room for cookies and things arranged by smell.

Only know Heep, seen them live 3 or 4 times and enjoying their most recent album release. Gypsy is an out and out classic, kinda of their trump card in the live shows!

Traffic. John Barleycorn is one of my all-time favorite albums. Low Spark also has been spun a fair bit on the turntable through the years.

I own heaps (oh-oh, no pun intended) of releases from both these bands but I return to Traffics output much more than Heaps, particularly for Chris Woods contributions.

I love the "pastoral" feel they got in a lot of their mid-period songs, and I find them a lot more nuanced than Uriah Heap.

I really like nuance.

Heep, although I've not listened to them in years.  Used to like a bit of Steve Winwood solo, back in the day...

Why? Their 21st century albums are quite good.

I wouldn't disagree, but there's lots of good stuff out there to be listened to, Cristi. As I've said before, I realise that 98% of the prog music being produced, I'll never hear and I don't really have a 'fear of missing out'. When it comes to Heep, growing up, I'd heard everything up to about 1990, but very little after.

I agree there's a lot of stuff out there, and Uriah Heep is still one of those things. Big smile
I also get back to classic Heep sometimes, the Byron era albums are still a treat for me. Smile
