It's pretty poor. 90125 is also pretty poor, but perhaps just a hair above. Option 2 seems like the right choice for me.

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect. |

I voted and then started reading the comments. By the time I got here, I forgot what my vote was
Either I'm too sleepy or I don't care much about Big Generator AND 90125! |

I don't like it one bit but it's sadly not their worst. At least it's relatively short compared to some of the disasters that followed it...

Not their worst, but nowhere near as good as 90125, which is among my favourite Yes albums.

I cringe when they sing "I eat at Chez Nous"
However, "Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there" is kinda silly.

^ They were pioneers in silly lyrics... When it came out, BG was the worst Yes album ever, but they did even worse after that (FfH and H&E). There are a couple of good songs on it, though, notably Shoot High, Aim Low. To me it was and still is a major disappointment after 90125.

Just like Tormato this seems to be a love it or hate it album for the band. I remember a dj at the time saying he thought it was "in all honesty the best thing the band has ever done." While I wouldn't go that far I do think it's very good and is one of their most underrated albums. "I'm running" and "final eyes" are both among the best later Yes tracks imo. "Holy lamb" is quite special as well. The rest is hit or miss but I like most of it.

I like it about the same as 90125 and would place it above a number of their later albums.

It is among my least favourite Yes albums, but even those ones are not really bad, I can listen them and enjoy them... only, I might get bored after a while. So I'm going with Not Bad, but not that good.

Haven't heard it all the way through, but from what I've gathered here and fro, I wouldn't want to.

Always liked it. Crisp, precise, dynamic, strong memorable songs. Which is probably the problem. If you can't remember how it started by the time you get to the end it ain't a prog rock album. Seems to be hated more for what it's not than what it is. It's middle ranking in the Yes catalogue for me. Ah well, when one hears a band start playing different tunes the negativity is predictable. Finally got around to hearing Open Your Eyes. Nearly as awful as Heaven And Earth. Or is it the other way around? Not used to not liking a Yes album. Feels weird...

This is the album where I start ignoring that it's YES, if that's any indicator, lol. I pretty much go from 09125 to Union and then skip everything else more or less as well.

Clicked first option....but I don't love it, but I think it is just as good as 90125 and a very enjoyable listen. I enjoy that 80's sound, I don't want everything to sound like Relayer.
The production on these later albums are very good and I like Trevor Rabin's guitar playing, I've never been a big fan of Steve Howe, he's perfectly fine but that's about it.

I think it's a very good album let down only by its awful title track. I do prefer 90125, but not by much.

I was actually really excited about Big Generator when it first came out, but my feelings over the years have drastically changed. Of all the Yes albums I've purchased, I would only consider Union to be a worse album than Big Generator.

What, including Open Your Eyes? That makes both Union and Big Generator sound like masterpieces.

I admit I have not heard the Open Your Eyes album - I was vociferously warned away from it!
