Ton Scherpenzeel isn't exactly a household name (even in his own household), but he's the keyboard maestro behind Dutch Symphonic Prog legends, Kayak. He's also the band's chief composer, producer, arranger and lyricist, so if it wasn't for having Scherpenzeel in the band, then Kayak would be up the creek without a paddle, so to speak. Tongue

4 stars 1978: Ton Scherpenzeel - Le Carnival des Aniimaux - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihsfd79od40
1991: Ton Scherpenzeel - Orion: Virgin Grounds

Scope: an obscure Jazz-Rock/Fusion band from the obscure Dutch town of Zwolle, brought to you courtesy of the always excellent Terminal Passage channel on YouTube, where there's no end of obscure album treasures  just waiting to be discovered throughout the passage of time. I feel another blog coming on. Wink

Shocking Blue were formed in The Hague by Robbie van Leeuwen back in 1967, although the band will always be best-remembered for eye-catching singer Mariska Veres (1947-2006).  Her weapons were her crystal kohl-rimmed eyes and husky voice, and with hair as black as the dark night, making every man mad for her. Wow! She's got it! Yeah, baby, she's got it! Heart

Spin: an Ekseptional Jazz-Rock band from Holland. Why not give their two super-cool albums a Spin. Smile

When it comes to obscure Dutch bands, the Jazz-Rock band Stars & Stips are about as obscure as they come. In this Dutch version of a super-group with four stars of the Dutch music scene (including two members of Golden Earring) getting together for a one-off album project, I think you'll agree there are shades of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke's "Resurrection Shuffle" to be heard in the "Judas Shuffle" video below, which can't be a bad thing. Smile

Dutch band Supersister may be a long way from the dreaming spires of Canterbury, but this is some of the most complex Canterbury Scene music you'll hear North of Hatfield.
Music is supposed to be good for the Soul, so they should prescribe this music on the National Health. Be warned though: it may take several listens to truly appreciate the intricacies of Supersister's albums, which is sometimes as difficult as trying to juggle Moving Gelatine Plates, but ultimately rewarding. Wink

5 stars  1978: SUSTAIN - Sustain (Symphonic Prog  Netherlands) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQiJ1K1OhEw

A Symphonic Prog masterpiece with added Jazz-Rock elements to Sustain the interest, which comes courtesy of the Prog Line channel - the gateway to obscure prog albums on YouTube. Thumbs Up

Wally Tax (1948-2005) isn't exactly a household name (even in his native Holland), but he's the man behind this one-off album by the cunningly titled band, Tax Free, and if this isn't the finest Jazz-Rock album you've never heard, then I'm a Dutch uncle. Smile

I'm on a roll with this blog at the moment with just four more bands to go after Thomas Flinter: an obscure Jazz-Rock band, named after an even more obscure Dutch troubadour from the Middle Ages.

Transister: a quirky, one-off album project by Robert Jan Stips, who was also a member of three other Dutch bands:- Golden Earring; Supersister & Stars & Stips!

3 stars 1979: Transister- Zig Zag - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS9sLO45foI

Wash Your Hands Before You Touch Me! (a fitting song title for the strange Covid-19 years 2020-2022) Tongue

4 stars 1982: Van Otterdyke - The Syrens - (full album currently unavailable)

There's no sign of Van Otterdyke's one and only album on YouTube, so maybe it's just Hiding in the Dark. Confused

4 stars 1973: ZOO - Zoo (Crossover Prog  Netherlands) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBqKpax6TZg&t=1s

A short-lived band who got together to record one funky album before two members skipped off to form the band Kangaroo. Listen out for the Beatles' tribute medley. Thumbs Up

At Last! It's the final band in this blog (57 artists & 248 albums later) and after Zoo, it's right back to the beginning of the alphabet again for After Tea - a Dutch band I only discovered last week when I bought their second album on CD from Oxfam Music in West Bridgford. Thumbs Up
