Assuming everyone has equal power in the legal contract. If you have an example, please give us a brief story, since we don’t all know every band and/or the details.

I’ve read in interviews from Eric and Stevie that after Cream disbanded, Ginger Baker showed up to Blind Faith rehearsal and Eric Clapton nor Stevie Winwood had the guts to say they didn’t want him in the band, so they did their one album and broke up. I highly recommend the documentary “Beware of Mr. Baker” (it might still be on YouTube)

Extra Credit: A member who kept refusing to leave, and ended up staying with the band.

whilst I would have to think a lot harder to answer an interesting post question properly, the most famous quote about a band member who would have been better off staying is that of Nick Mason on his old mucker, Roger Waters. Basically, Mason said that all Waters had to do to completely bugger up any plans he and Gilmour had to record as Floyd would have been to stay in the band, but not do anything. It was his leaving which led to AMLOR.
In Lazland, life is transient. Prog is permanent.

I wish Roger did stay with the band, and it would have been best for all parties involved. They could have made solo albums, but I think maybe Roger wanted to see how he would do without the name "Pink Floyd".. In an interview, Gilmour mentioned how important the name "Pink Floyd" was after he did a solo album/tour and was unsuccessful.
