We all know the endless argument about ELP vs Triumvirat. Barring that there are some distinct similarities. Key-Bass-Drum trios, power Hammond sound, intricate rhythms, orchestral quality. But I fully accept the differences as well and don't personally think of them as a clone band. I mean, they're not Starcastle for god sake. BUT... If you had to pick one, which Triumvirat album comes closest to the ELP sound that reinforces that reputation?

No Pompeii? It would have only been my second choice after Spartacus, but still...

Triumvirat would seem to be another 70's prog band that passed me by... I'm going to investigate.

Illusions sounds more ELPish to me. My favorite is Spartacus.

I can't really pick one. To me, Triumvirat sound like Triumvirat.

Illusions is their closest in IMO, but they are not a copy, just another take on the keyboard led trio format. Great album.

Exactly my thoughts. Triumvirat is Triumvirat, not ELP.

Definitely, Triumvirat sound like Triumvirat, but I always thought that their album Spartacus (my vote here) and Pompeii were less original (and maybe more ELP-like?) than e.g. Illusions on a Double Dimple or Old Loves Die Hard - my two favourite Triumvirat albums. À la carte is forgettable and Russian Roulette probably their Love Beach (...oh, so it actually would be a contender...?!). I guess some voters didn't read the poll question (Illusions... is IMO not their most ELP-like album)... |

Spartacus does sound a little like ELP but none of their others do (IMHO.)
Excellent band.

And that's why I like Mediterranean Tales. Pompeii, even when credited to "New Triumvirat", is a worthy addition to their canon, far better than the last two of the list. |

I voted Illusions before reading the question. That's a great symphonic album. I actually dislike Spartacus because at times Jurgen is just straying too close to Keith Emerson for comfort although overall the album is not particularly ELP like. Illusions on the other hand is much more ELP like stylistically but Jurgen is doing his own thing and not copying.
