Hard to go against Can here but Im a huge fan of that Amon Duul II record. I always felt I liked that one more than most do. I mean ADII fans respect it hugely but it's Yeti, Tanz Der Lemminge or Wolf City it seems that gets the spotlight and that's probably justified by the music. They seemed to just get better and this is their 1969 debut after splitting from Amon Duul.

Oh dang! Phallus Dei is obviously the stone cold classic here, but Can Tapes has at least a double album worth of material that easily equals their first six albums. And I listen to it all the time. I have to vote for the latter. Paternoster is on my seemingly endless "close, but no cigar-list of bands, where the annoying vocals gets in the way of great - or even fantastic music. For me it does. But whenever Franz Wippel concentrates on what he is actually quite skillful at - playing the organ - it's all good. Those two remaining albums are really good, but I think both bands have better albums to show for.

Has to be the lost tapes for me. Such an inspired collection of things that shouldn't have remained hidden for so long.
All of the last four are quite strong though.

I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect. |

I votes for Amon Düül II here, but Can and Ashra Temple are very, very close.

Of course The Lost Tapes are remarkable and great, but I go for the super-fresh and enchanting Phallus Dei.

I have to agree with you about everything. Except I went for Amon Duul II over Can but agree that the Can album is incredible but with 3 discs we get some not so great moments too. I'm more into consistent than highs and lows even if the lows are minimal. And yes Paternoster has these whiney vocals and negative lyrics at times. But like Vinegar I can deal with them for the music they offer up. And for sure the Agitation Free and Ash Ra Tempel albums aren't my favourites by either. The Lost Tapes are so good though! That last track on disc one "Bubble Rap" is really cool. So many highs though.

Yeah buddy a whole lot of Rosi on this one. Other than that the same lineup as the debut with Klaus Schulze once again drumming and adding organ and synths.

Enchanting is a good word. I really like the bonus tracks on my edition the Freakout Requiems. Previously unreleased.
