I think it is ok. I mean, everytime that i use the mp3 in this site is for listening stuff that i had never heard before, if something looks interesting now you can just push play on it, and dont wait till it downloads to start the listening... if you really want the song, you go and use any of the million diffrent free mp3 downloading softwares.

I really think they should let us download them.

It was really fun to be able to download them, and it is also way quicker than using any other mp3 sharing software.

Let us download the mp3 plzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not for anyone to decide. You want this site to remain open, right?

Well, the downloading isn't legal. So it's best that you don't complain and just carry on without downloading.

I would like to lament the idea deeply of we could not dowloader  the mp3 of this site.
It was a very unhappy idea, to substitute them for this terrible flah player.
It was a great mistake of this site.
Please, they swallow of turn the access free to the mp3...

Thus, you lost associated and visitors.

I agree

Streaming is enough to try out bands, and then just buy it if you like it. If you don't like it, then you don't want it, right?

It was good while it lasted, but now it is time to carry on.

I think it should be up to the artist proprietary to make the decision. A lot of groups like Caravan were ' shafted' big time in the 70's, 80's by the record company's and with new media for music should have automatic ownership of new formats. If they are happy to release on mp3 then cool. The other argument could be that after a certain date.......then maybe again it should be up to artist. For example I don't think Pink Floyd have ever battled financially beacuse of Dark Side Of The Moon mp3's. If you like something enough, nothing beats the genuine article. Besides if you bought the genuine article then there is nothing stopping you putting on mp3 for your own use.

Prog Archives have reverted to streaming for listening.....this is correct and it makes the site more credible even if I am guilty as charged. I uploaded Bo Hansson many times but Prog archives ignored me. They took Strawbs though

Good political move PA.

No one should be complaining about not being able to download mp3s anymore from the archives.  If the ones complaining were using the mp3s for what they were designed to do, which is to give an example of a band's music so one could make an informed decision before you invest money in one of their albums, then no one should be whining, so obviously the ones who are didn't use the mp3s in the spirit they were designed to be used in.  You can still stream the same tunes, so what's the big deal?  Boo Hoo now we only have torrentspy, piratebay, limewire and the myriad of other ways to download mp3s for free on the internet.

I would strongly like to say (and have already said it..) that they keep MP3s up, I DO NOT mind MP3s of our music on the site, and basically I believe we should simply dump the ones from artists /labels that do not want them there. If the artist is OK with it, then proceed, otherwise use a stream so people who do not know the musc CAN hear it.

Well, downloading mp3 is not legaland not correct, but I believe for a band having 1 or 2 songs downloadable, can be a positive thing!

Personally I knew IQ music from this site, downloading Widows Peak.

From that point I bought all records of this band!

I bought most of what I download here.  If not for the downloading on this site I would not own the following albums:

Selling England By the Pound
Foxtrot
Nursery Cryme
Immortal?
Awake
Images And Words
Scenes from A Memory
Train of Thought
Aqualung
Thick As A brick
Afraid of Sunlight
Brave
Clutching at Straws
Fugazi
Holidays In Eden
Marbles
marillion.com
Misplaced Childhood
Script for a Jester's Tear
This Strange Engine
Orchid
Operation: Mindcrime
Day For Night
Feel Euphoria
Octane
V
Fragile
90125

I bought all of the above albums because I enjoyed songs that were downloadable here or becuase I enjoyed other music downloadable here by the artists.  I only have about 20 other prog albums.  The downloadable songs on this site got me into prog and directed me to what I should by next.  I have 7 other albums on order all of which I ordered due to the downloadable songs here.
I think the songs downloable helped promote our music of choice and was a very good idea.  People browsing who find themselves on this site can understand prog because we had songs availabe.

Streaming songs don't work as well as the whole song.  Prog-heads of all should know this, do you listen to part of a concept album? or part of your favorite epic?  I know I don't I listen and get into it.

Now I will rely solely on suggestions from the message boards on this site instead of listening to songs and figuring out what I like on my own.  I don't like this new change to my favorite site.
