Tales From Topographic Oceans is my favorite album ever.

Should have included Soft Machine Third and Godspeed You Black Emperor's Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas. All four are double albums with four tracks but only one got the ire of every critic in the world. The other three got a free pass for being so innovative and creative. No hypocrisy there at all. Nope.

I've always loved Tales. One of Yes best record for me. So easily it's Yes.

But one was from 1970, when prog music was exiting and innovative, one was from the 1990s when nobody was looking (and Post Rock was new & fresh), and the other from late 1978 when people/critics were beyond caring.

Although "Incantations" is more immediately accessible "...Topographic Oceans" is like getting into a hot bath. Uncomfortable at first, but with persistance ultimately soothing.

There's a certain sense of achievmant in appreciating "...Topographic Oceans".

Where were you posters voting for TFTO when the pollsters voted TFTO the worst Yes album of their first six?

Well, comparing Yes to Yes is a bit different than comparing Yes to Mike Oldfield.

Btw, I wasn't around for that Yes poll.

You know what edged it for me?  Maddy Prior doing the Hiawatha Song and the contribution of Pierre Moerlen.
